The Miss South Africa pageant, founded in 1956 in Apartheid South Africa, is the preliminary competition to the Miss Universe and Miss World international pageants. The winner of Miss South Africa precedes to the Miss Universe pageant to represent the country and her first runner up competes as Miss World South Africa at the Miss World competition. The Miss South Africa pageant has produced multiple international titleholders throughout its history.
