“In summer 2014, the Miss World Organization offered the U.S. franchise to Chris Wilmer, who has been the national director of the Miss United States Organization since fall 2011. This was announced on stage during the 2014 Miss United States Pageant just before crowning,” explained Laura Clark, Director of Marketing with the Miss United States Organization, now the director of Miss Earth United States.
“Because the rightful winner of Miss United States 2014, Elizabeth Safrit was the proper age, (17-25), she was selected to compete at Miss World. However, beginning in 2015, a separate contest, Miss World America, was instated to assure the delegate would be the proper age and evaluated on categories specific to the Miss World competition. Chris Wilmer remained the franchise owner/director of Miss World America and the national director of Miss United States until 2016; however, Miss United States is actually owned by Isabella Ilacqua.”
