Miss Universe 2015 ended with the Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach winning the crown.

Before the Miss Universe competition, Ana Halozan, Miss Slovenia, suffered an alarming seizure and her face was left paralyzed on the right side. Because of this, she withdrew from the Miss Universe competition and thought she had lost her chance at walking on the Miss Universe stage. However, the organization brought her on stage during the final pageant so she could live her dream of walking on the Miss Universe stage. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Pia Wurtzbach won the title of Miss Universe 2015 on December 20, 2015. She became the 64th Miss Universe and effectively ended the 42-year drought of pageant winners from the Philippines but the Philippines had a scare when emcee Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner. First, he named Miss Universe Venezuela, only to correct himself to name the true winner, Pia Wurtzbach. Additionally, Miss Universe announces new crown with a $300,000 value!



The new crown symbolizes beauty, stability, confidence and power of women around the world. The new crown marked the start of the organizations 10-year partnership with D.I.C.

During the first week of February, Pia attended Super Bowl 50 events in San Francisco. She was a special correspondent for Inside Edition, reporting for behind-the-scenes events leading up to the game, as well as the Super Bowl game itself.

On February 11, Pia walked in the Red Dress Collection fashion show. This show was part of the Go Red for Women campaign for the American Heart Association.

On April 27, Pia sported a Miss Universe jersey at the Mets vs. Reds game. It was at this game that she threw out the first pitch.

In May 2016, Pia and Miss USA 2015, Olivia Jordan, attended the Project Sunshine Gala. Project Sunshine is a nonprofit organization providing families living with medical challenges with free educational, recreational and social programs.

In May 2016, Pia participated in the AIDS walk in New York. When she was crowned Miss Universe, she made a commitment to spread awareness about HIV and AIDS.

Continuing with her campaign to spread awareness about HIV and AIDS, Pia attended the high-level meeting about ending AIDS with the United Nations in June 2016.

In September, Pia attended events during New York Fashion Week. She walked the runway for Sherri Hill.

Pia posted a photo of herself on Instagram on World AIDS Day in December, calling out for her followers to do the same. In the photo she had written “Get Tested” on her hand. She then made a video compilation of photos submitted by others and posted it on her Instagram page.

Pia announced her contest to find a VIP Guest to attend Miss Universe with her. The winner of the contest and one friend will be flown to the Philippines to attend the show and receive a make-over from the Miss Universe glam squad.

Onstage Questions and Answers at Miss Universe 2015

This year the Miss Universe pageant did an excellent job of asking political questions that relate to an issue in each contestant's home country. This year's top 5, including Philippines, France, Australia, Colombia, and USA, all gave coherent answers, and for the most part stayed within their allotted time frame.

Miss Universe Philippines's Onstage Question:

"Earlier this year there was a controversy in the Philippines about the United States reopening a military base in your country. Do you think the United States should have a military presence in your country?"

Miss Philippines gave an answer in favor of the United States military presence, acknowledging the friendly relationship between the two countries, and ended with "I don't see any problem with that at all." Miss Philippines had an excellent delivery and addressed the issue head on. Her answer also favors the United States, where the pageant is owned and hosted, so it likely didn't hurt her to give an answer that was favorable to both the judges and the local audience.

Miss Universe France's Onstage Question:

"Having experienced terrorism first hand yourself, what is the best way for government to combat this rising threat?"

After the Paris attacks, it is no surprise that this was selected as a question for Miss France. She was present at the French soccer match when the explosions were first heard and thus had a first hand experience with the recent acts of terrorism. Miss France even changed up her gown to display the peace for Paris symbol in the evening gown portion of the competition.

When Miss France received this question, there was a lot of anticipation for what she had to say regarding the attacks. Though delivered beautifully and coherently, what Miss France said was likely not what the global audience and judges wanted to hear.

She began by saying that we need to know where the problems are coming from. She added that we should listen to those that are committing these attacks. This part likely did not go over as well with the judges since that's the opposite of what our nation is trying to do to globally fight these acts of terrorism. By answering that we should be listening to those who are sending a message of fear rather than speaking out a message of peace likely didn't win her a lot of points. She ended by saying that the people of France need to learn to be happy and live together peacefully, but in translation it came across in a way that seemed to isolate the issue as something that France needs to address on it's own. The absence of addressing this issue on a global level likely hurt her chances of continuing to the next round.

Miss Universe Australia's Onstage Question:

"Australia is taking it's first steps towards legalizing marijuana. Do you think that's a good idea? Why?"

Miss Australia began by saying that there are both positives and negatives to this issue. She answered that medically it should be legalized, and stated that "it has been found to be really amazing at treating cancer and has really really helped those very very sick," but added that the government should weigh other options. Miss Australia had an excellent delivery and essentially addressed both sides of the issue. Considering the many issues at play here and the reasons behind marijuana remaining illegal in the country, this was a well-summarized answer from Australia tackling this major question in her 30-second time allotment.

Miss Colombia's Onstage Question:

"Drug abuse continues to be one of the world's most serious social problems. What do you think is the best way to handle this issue?

Colombia addressed the issue by saying that we could eradicate these problems through incentivizing education for them in our homes because they continue to be large problems for the world. Colombia used an interpreter, which gave her less time, but in her answer she addressed the issue as a global problem, which is always favorable on the International level. Although this answer could have included some more detail, such as how we could incentivize education in our homes and what that would look like, using education as a solution was received well on the Miss Universe stage.

Miss USA's Onstage Question:

"Few issues in the United States are more polarizing than gun ownership. The argument really heats up after major tragic events such as San Bernardino and Sandy Hook. What is your position on gun control?

Miss USA began by saying that all individuals deserve the right to protect themselves and to feel safe. However, she added that "sometimes we need to look at safety as a whole - more than just our personal safety." Miss USA concluded by stating that we need stronger regulations on gun ownership, but was unable to come up with specific details before her time ran out. This clearly didn't hurt her score too much as she proceeded to the final three, but some more details in her answer could have helped. All in all, she remained confident and poised onstage and handled her timing cut-off very well.

The Miss Universe pageant has always narrowed down the winners from the top five, but this year they changed things up. From the top five, a top three was selected and these contestants were given one last chance to walk before the judges. Then, they were all asked to answer the same question, "Why should you be the next Miss Universe?"

Their fellow contestants then voted on them, based not only on the contestant's answer, but also on their whole experience with each contestant leading up to the final pageant. This plot twist left the contestants on stage as surprised as viewers at home.

After the dramatic events that followed, we will have to wait and see if the Miss Universe Organization will continue with the selection of the top three in the future, or stick with the usual top five.

10. Miss Philippines

Starting off the list we have the new Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. Pia has beautiful long legs and a very feminine figure. Although she isn't necessarily defined, you can tell that she worked hard for her body and the results are beautiful. To get this type of body shape it is most important to eat clean and stick to cardio-based exercises. 

9. Miss Bolivia

Next we have Miss Bolivia, Romina RocaMonje. This latin beauty has a toned and tiny waist, sexy hips, and curves from the waist down. She is proof that stick-skinny isn't always the best look and that you can have curves in all the right places. Genetics play a big role in this look but I am willing to bet that she put in a lot of work to get nice and toned.

8. Miss British Virgin Islands

At the #8 spot we have Miss British Virgin Islands, Adorya Rocio Baly. What a powerhouse! She has probably the most athletic build on stage this year. Not only does she have amazing abs, but her shoulders and upper body look great, too! To get these guns, a girl would have to focus on low weight and high reps with shoulder and arm exercises. Time to hit the weights!

7. Miss Brazil

Next is Miss Brazil, Marthina Brandt. You can tell Marthina has very long lines with a small frame. Her lean legs and abs are absolutely beautiful! Genetics were also a big factor in this look but so was a strict diet. You can't get this body without eating clean and doing cardio.

6. Miss Australia

Next up is Miss Australia, Monika Radulovic. She is proof that a spray tan is a necessity for a good stage look! Doesn't her tan look wonderful?! Monika has an amazing core and wonderful curves. Not to mention her hips definitely don't lie! Australia is another example of fit, sexy and curvy!

5. Miss Dominican Republic

At #5 we have Miss Dominican Republic, Clarissa Molina. I'm not sure if it was her dazzling smile or young look, but Clarissa was one of my favorites this year. She is absolutely beautiful and looked like she was having fun onstage! Again, her legs are curvy and her waist is tiny, which shows her hard work both in the kitchen and at the gym.

4. Miss South Africa

Next we have the lovely Miss South Africa, Refilwe Mthimunye. This woman is gorgeous and has a different body type than the latina ladies and other contestants in this top 10 list. Her legs looked beautiful and she presented herself wonderfully onstage. Good luck pronouncing her name, though! ...And yet a rose by any other name... :)

3. Miss Venezuela

Starting the top 3 we have Miss Venezuela, Mariana Jimenez. Mariana is absolutely beautiful with her long legs, toned tummy, and total package look. She is one of my favorite examples of a total package! The best way to get this look is by eating clean and training mean with both cardio and resistance training.

2. Miss Colombia

At #2 we have Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez. She might be the sexiest girl on stage this year! The latin ladies definitely represented this year and brought some beautiful bodies! Ariadna has an amazing body. She has muscular legs and a very small waist, which again shows hard work and dedication in the gym and in the kitchen.

1. Miss USA!!!

The best swimsuit body this year was Miss USA, Olivia Jordan. This was by far my favorite look onstage this year. She is absolutely beautiful and has the best lean, long muscle definition. Her abs were definitely made in the kitchen! Just looking at her you can tell that she put in serious work while she prepared for Miss Universe.
