In 2008 I had an idea to coordinate a pageant for the Dothan Rescue mission in my hometown of Dothan, Alabama. I named that pageant Miss Heart of Houston County.
There were no big plans. There wasn’t a National Pageant in the works, I was just a working mom thankful that a car dealership, a Mary Kay Sales Director, and a couple of local businesses said yes to sponsorships. The rest is history really.
That small town pageant is now a National Pageant program that has distributed millions of non perishable food items to non profit organizations all across the USA. We have contributed thousands of non perishable food items to Veterans Service Organizations each year, that is actually one of the things I am the most proud of. Through our Christmas pageants we have been able to donate thousands of toys to children across the USA because we believe every child deserves to wake up to a gift on Christmas morning regardless of their circumstances.
The Mary Kay Sales Director who sponsored my first pageant later became a key leader within what would later be known at Miss Heart of the USA. The car dealership that sponsored our very first pageant, the owner of the dealership went on to become the mayor of my hometown and has since done so many incredible things. A couple of key people believed in me and what I was trying to do. Because of that, Miss Heart of the USA has been able to touch the lives of thousands of people through volunteer efforts by our Queens.
As we grew people came and went. Many volunteering their time and talents to make what Miss Heart of the USA what it is today and for that I am so incredibly thankful.
In 2016 I married a man that has the same heart for service as I do. I truly feel like God hand picked him just for me. We now work together on a program that we hope leaves a lasting impression on everyone we come in contact through it.
